Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman

This book inspires and me with revolutionary form and message. One of its important messages is that we are not as disconnected as we often think. The imagery in the catalogues is specific and gritty and luxurious. The poem raises up both American individuality and connection.

Truly one of the giants -- good pick. Not to mention he was on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman -- he's still famous enough to be on TV!
