Chosen by Nick Ricker, Dover, NH

I think Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince should be saved for future reference. Also without it the Harry Potter fan clubs would have nothing to talk about. I also think this is the best Harry Potter ever because it's so exciting. So you can burn that book, that book, even that book, but Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is coming with me.

Charlotte's Web by E. B. White

SPOILER ALERT: THE END OF THE STORY IS GIVEN AWAY IN THIS POSTING

First it is a really good story about a little girl who saved a baby pig. her father almost killed him because he is so small. She called him Wilbur and she really loves him. Wilbur has a friend, Charlotte. She is a spider who helped him with everything until she died. Secondly, it has a good lesson for us. It is teaching us about love and friendship. In conclusion, this book has a good message. The message is do not give up and lose hope. A good friend will help you with your problems.
Chosen by Darlyn Suganda, Dover, NH

Charlotte's Web is a fantastic book about friendship. That book really teaches people about kindness. It made me sad but happy at the same time because Wilbur will be sad one minute and happy at the same time, but when he's happy he still knows something bad will happen to him. At the end of Charlotte's Web it is really sad but you realize it is in a good way.

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney

I would save this book because it's a sweet, and happy story. My mother used to red it to me whien I was a little girl, and I think that other people would enjoy it too. This book also made me ralize that no matter what I do, my mom will always love me. Guess How Much I Love You is an amazing book that should be known for generations. It's powerful and it will touch your soul.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War

The Art of War represents the power of the ancient civilizations of the world, and how to defeat even the strongest of your enemies. Within its text lies the secrets of war. It states that, rather than using raw power to defeat your foes, you should use strategy to break the morale of your opponent and decimate them. The Art of War is so effective, it is even used and read today, not only for combat, but for business as well. Sun Tzu believed that cunning wits and strategy always beats brute force, and I support that belief, too. That is why I believe that The Art of War should be saved. It shows the intelligence and strength of the ancients that many "modern" countries are lacking.

A Child Called It by David Pelzer

I would want to save this book because it touched my heart in so many ways. It showed me how society really is and that things aren't the same and that the world isnt as perfect as the government makes it out to be. I loved this book and it was one book that I just couldn't put down.
Chosen by Jenna Paradice, Concord, NH

This book touched my soul because it is a true story about a boy trying to survive. He is trying to survive his drunken and abusive mother. It opened my mind because it showed me that I shouldn't take for granted what my partents do for me because some kids' partents don't love their children and the kids don't get to experience a real childhood.

Chosen by Megan Bolduc, Dover, NH

I would save this book from a fire because it teaches a good life lesson about how your life can be really good compared to others, and that you shouldn't take life for granted. I recommend you read this book because it will make you really appreciate your life.

Chosen by Bethany Michaud, Dover, NH

First of all, I would save this book because it has a great message. Secondly, many of my friends have recommended it to me. Finally I would save this book because I don't like to read that much and A Child Called It hooked me on books.

Chosen by Mariah Dawnis, Dover, NH

I couldn't get over this book. I cried five times just reading it. If you live sad stories, I suggest this book to you. This book would be the best book to save because it is a true story. It teaches a great lesson; not all children have a perfect life.

Chosen by Jamie Boyatsis, Dover, NH

A Child Called It teaches a big lesson on abuse. It would be important for future generations because it could encourage people being abused to talk to someone. This book is about a child named David who got abused by his mother. His mother was an alcoholic. That was part of the reason why she abused him. He also had two brother who never got abused. Eventually the father left, and David was close to death from starving, and being beat. Then eventually the teachers and nurse found out, and he was free he got taken away from his mother.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares

I think that if this book was burned people wouldn't think of exploring. People also wouldn't think of a good friendship. You probably wouldn't get good ideas. People wouldn't know other people. Maybe people wouldn't get the idea of sharing. This book tells you that you don't have to hate people just because they're your new family. This book also teaches you just because you are far away from your friends does not mean you can not be close to them too. That's why I don't want this book burned.

The Lost World by Michael Crichton

If book were all being burned like in Fahrenheit 451 I would save The Lost World because it fills my head with thoughts on how to bring back extinct life and how to contribute to society. The Lost World is a good piece of writing and makes you expand your thoughts about how you can change the world. To me it taught that anyone can solve life's mysteries and help the world when in dire need.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

I would save this book because, as a young child, my parents would read this book to me almost every night. Through reading it, I learned that you don't know what you have until it's gone. Also, that you should respect and appreciate family. This book was also the book I used to practice reading. All of the emotional ties and the strong morals in the story are why I would save Where the Wild Things Are from the flames.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

This book changed my outlook on life. It is a story of a courageous girl named Kate who battles all her life with leukemia. She relies on her sister Anna to hold everything together, and supply her with all of her medical needs. Anna has given almost everything to keep her alive, at her parents' request. Anna sees their request as a betrayal. This book will bring tears to your eyes and laughter to your heart.

300 by Frank Miller

If I were to save any book from the flames it would be 300. It really said something. It said to stand up and fight for what you believe in. First of all, the king of Persia, Xerxies, tries to make Sparta surrender under his control. He says he's a God kind because he is the strongest kind in the world. Then, Lyanidus, King of Sparta, did not want to surrender. So he went to war with 300 of his best soldiers and fought Xerxies' 10,000 men. But in the end the Spartans died doing the right thing.

Mathematics Applications and Concepts Course 1

I will never give up Mathematics Applications and Concepts Course 1 to the demons of ash and flame. Without math buildings wouldn't be built, people wouldn't have jobs or money … people wouldn't even know what money is!!! Without math we wouldn't have gas to light and warm our homes for heat. Without math we wouldn't be able to cook or make food for us to eat. Without math huge enormous amounts of chaos will spread and no force in the universe will be able to stop it. That is how important math is.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

When I try to think of a book I would want to save from the fires, so many come to mind, but one book stands out as the best. This book is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. This book drew me in at the beginning and had me hooked until the very last word. It's one of those books you just can't stop reading. It is a great book about courage, hope, and finding love in the best and worst conditions. So many books are important to me, but this one is my favorite because of how well it was told.
Chosen by Emily deJong, Dover, NH

I would save this book because I really like how Stephenie Meyer writes. People could really learn a lot from reading her books. This book is important to me because I can relate to how Bella acts and how she reacts to situations throughout this book. Just when you think one thing will happen, it takes a turn in a different direction. This book had me so wrapped up in it, I couldn't put it down.
Chosen by Liz Turner, Dover, NH

If I lived in a society that burned books, the first thing I would do is move away. But if I had to go back inro a burning building for a book, then it better be a really good book. It would have to be a book capable of taking you into its world, capable of making you identify with its characters. One book that meets this description is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. This is an amazing book about two characters -- Edward and Bella who take a risk and defy the odds.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

The book I would save from the flames would be my Harry Potter series. I think that it's important for young people to use their imagination. This would expand their thinking. By reading books that interest them, they can learn a lot about literature and broaden their vocabulary. I would recommend this book to people who like to be imaginitive and who like to daydream.
Chosen by Madu Pangeman, Dover, NH

If J. K. Rowling's finest work is cast intot he flames, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will be lost forever, along wiht a message that anything's possible with friends and family by your side. This story's more thatn a fantasy with a moral. It's a land where you'll meet dragons and pieies, brew potions and cast spells. When you read this book, you experience the pain the Dursleys inflict on young Harry and his boy of being able to live at Hogwarts. If you destroy this book, you destroy a world full of magic and wonder.
Chosen by Danielle Trainor, Dover, NH

When I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I traveled to an enchanted land exploding with mysteries and thrills, where my imagination became reality and the expected didn't exist. This amazing book teaches you to believe in more than you can see and excel to your full potential. This book is powerful for children and adults. If it wer swallowed by unforgiving flames and lost forever, the world would be wrenched away from magical dreams and planted in ordinary life. If J. K. rowling's stupendous writing was decimated by fire, the whole world would suffer.

Finding Buck McHenry by Alfred Slote

I'd have to pick this book because it revealsd no matter how famous your once were you don't have to tell every one and show off to the world. One of the most remarkable lessons in this story is that even though you were one of the best African American pitchers to step on a field just because your color is different you should be treated the same. This is just some of the shocking lessons in this book that will touch your soul.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver sends a message that you should stand up for what you believe in. It would be important for future generations to read this because it gives you a great lesson. The main character Jonas has to live with memories of pain and even happiness that no one else knows about, and he can't tell them either. I think it is also important because it is good to read an unusual book like this; it makes the book more interesting.

Bleachers by John Grisham

This is a great book about an all American high school quarterback, and it shows the importance of honor and respect. The main character Neely Crenshaw returns to his hometown, after swearing that he never would, because his coach and mentor passed away. Secondly, this book demonstrates great will. Neely breaks his thumb in the championship game of his senior year; yet he continues to play through the pain. This shows his great courage. In conclusion this is the book I would save becuase Neely shows great leadership and guts in his performance.

This is Your Brain on Music by Daniel Levitin

A reason why this book is so valuable to me is because it teaches the joy of understanding music. This would be important to know because music is an international language. Some people don't understand that music can make the gloomiest person into cheerful, but it can. Daniel Levitin is currently producing music with a large record company in the city. What keeps him going is the quote, "If you don't got music, you don't got anything."

Faithful by Stewart O'Nan and Stephen King

The book I would save from the flames is a book called Faithful by Stephen King. I would save this book because it has taught me to believe in the things that seem impossible. It also shows me that love and dedication for the things you love is a good thing. This book is based upon King and the Boston Red Sox. King shows commitment, love, and even hate in this book. King hopes that the Red Sox will finally break their curse. This book is important to people because it tells them to never give up, against all odds.

Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe

I would save Uncle Tom's Cabin for three reasons. First of all I would save it because it opened people's eyes to realize that everyone on earth is equal. Reason number two is that it changed the way people see the world by letting them know what it is like to be a slave, and how much slaves had suffered and wanted to be free. Reason number three is that I learned about slavery in the U.S. history.

The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis

Family is very important in this book. This book should be saved so people will see how they used to act towards others. Kenny and Byran are main characters; they show an important lesson about trusting each other and family. Forgiving is important to show because if siblings are mean to you you should always forgive them because they will love and protect you forever. I think the Watsons Go to Birmingham is good to save, to tell that you should never judge a book by its cover and the same goes with people. Save this book because you won't be disappointed once you read it and see what it was like before and after.
